Sophos XG V18 Home Edition - setup error acpi AE bad parameter

Hi,

I am new to sophos and the forum and have an issue with installation.

Device/Appliance:

Lenovo M720Q with Intel i350-T4 NIC using PCIe riser card (i5 9400T 6 core, 8GB ram, 256gb nvme) with latest bios.

Downloaded sophos xg V18 Home Edition and burned to usb using rufus dd mode.

Acpi exception AE bad parameters could not install PCIconfig handler for boot bridge pc10.

Followed by another error screen and the just reboots and repeats the Same.

I have attached photos of the error and my bios config.

Bios is configured for legacy first boot.

Any help appreciated.

  • Hi prism,

I have done a hardware test using the lenovo built in diagnostics and every test passed.

    Storage

    Ram

    Pci

    CPU

I test recreated the usb stick using different method other than rufus and still the same issues.

I have done what you advised and the pci=noacpi made not difference and the acpi=off stops the boot loop but still the same error.

  • Looking at that message would appear to indicate an issue with USB driver. Please try different ports and maybe a bios update. Maybe your USB stick is not recognised by the Lenovo bios?

  • Thanks for the reply.

    1) it has the latest BIOS from March 2021

    2) I tried disabling the front USB ( as they are powered ones) and still same issue

    3) tried different USB ports and still the same issue.

The Lenovo also has upgraded power supply to handle the extra pcie load, I have removed the i350-t4 nic and riser card and still the same issue.

I have recreated the boot image with different utilities eg etcher as recommended by Sophos XG article I read.

I even tried the Sophos UTM and that was presenting different errors.

I was thinking of trying the older version of XG v17 not sure where to get that from.

The CPU is Coffee Lake family not sure if that would make a difference.

  • The cpu is not the issue. Try resetting the bios to defaults and starting again.. I am sure the harddrive is not supported.

  • Hi Ian,

Thanks for the suggestions,  I have managed to get it to boot.

When I downloaded the sophos xg for home edition it provided the following version.

    18.0.1 MR1 build 396

    secure2.sophos.com/.../thank-you.aspx

When I searched again for sophos xg it had download link for the following version.

    18.0.4 MR4 build 506

    www.sophos.com/.../download-installers.aspx

Which is what I installed, I still get the acpi error but just continues on.

I will try and configure it and see how I get on later on not sure of the above version can be used for home edition or not yet.

  • Hi,

I do not understand your last statement about home use?

  • Hi Ian,

I was saying that I downloaded it from different part of the website so was not sure if that was the commercial version or do I simply enter the serial provided in the email to make it into home edition.

I still have not had chance to configure it as the family get annoyed when I switch off the Internet to test :) so will have to try do it later on.

    Regards

    T

  • If you downloaded the wrong version you would not have been able to install it.

you enter the serial number then register the XG from within the XG and you already to go.

I understand about the family issue. Tell them to go for a long walk it will refresh their minds.

  • The problem is they always want to go out as family :) but have the bank holiday Monday tomorrow so will give it a try then.

I did have a quick play but could not get to the Web interface with all setting on default eg https://172.16.16.16:4444

I have disabled the on board nic and I think I have the number convention right on the intel nic i350-T4.

  • Plug a cable in and see which interface lights up.

  • Thanks Ian, I figure it all out in the end and running it in bridge mode now to see how I find it.

I do really like the sophos compared to my untangle (I have disconnect this for now) but have an issue with imap.mail.yahoo.com on port 993 not syncing emails and that is my main email account which is quite annoying.

I read that there was a newer version of the software to the one I installed 18.0.5 MR5 that resolved the issue but cannot find it anywhere to download (unless you have access to license portal) and that it will be auto update the current version in few weeks.
