NameCheap Dynamic DNS Failed or Notconnect

Trying to get NameCheap Dynamic DNS to work, but I'm either getting a "Failed" error when I configure it and use the below. I've tried "home.ducknet.org" as the hostname as well which gives a "notconnect" error instead. Any idea what I've got misconfigured? I've activated it and pasted the code from the dashboard.

  • Hello Bryon

    [UPDATE May 2023]

    It seems like the method described below is not working anymore with Namecheap. However the following should work

    Sophos Firewall side:

    Hostame = The A + Dynamic DNS Record you entered under Dynamic DNS in Name Cheap

    Interface = Port IP or NATed public IP

    Service Provide = Namecheap

    Login Name = The Domain you bought from NameCheap (from the Domain List)

    Password = Dynamic DNS Password (Provided by NameCheap)

    Namecheap side:

    Type = A + Dynamic DNS Record

    Host = @

    Value = 127.0.0.1

    Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

    Make sure you are not using any other DNS Provider attached to the same Interface.

    I just tried this and it worked by doing the following:

    Hostame = The A + Dynamic DNS Record you entered under Dynamic DNS in Name Cheap

    Interface = Port IP or NATed public IP

    Service Provider = NameCheap

    Login Name = The Domain you bought from NameCheap (from the Domain List)

    Password = Dynamic DNS Password (Provided by NameCheap)

    Note: Make sure that you’re creating the A + Dynamic DNS Record from the Dynamic DNS box and you are entering the current Public IP assigned to the XG

  • I deleted the A+ Dynamic DNS record on Namecheap and recreated it using my current public IP. Their docs seemed to say to ignore the IP field and put whatever you want in there beforehand as it's supposed to update it.

    Seems to work now, thank you!
