Traffic Shaping - Limit bandwidth on streams not working

Hi XG community,
I want to limit traffic on youtube/netflix streams to the lowest quality possible.
I have created the traffic shaping policy, used it in the webfilter category with the two domains(youtube.com, netflix.com).
The firewall rule is standard LAN to WAN with the webfilter. But I can still watch videos in 4k.

Maybe someone can help me here,

Regards Philipp

  • Hi,

you are aware that the units are kilobyte?

  • Yes, the default traffic shaping policy "limit to sd quality" has 700 kilobyte/s for download.

Thats why I only set it to 100 kilobyte/s, that should never be enough for 4k streaming.

  • Edit:

I probably fixed it by creating a traffic shaping policy for applications and using it on the category "streaming media" in the app-filter.

I didn't know accessing a website with a web-browser is being recognized as an app by the XG.

Now the problem is when I wan't to make it user specific I have to create a new firewall-rule for every different user/group.

    Edit2:

The only problem is you can't restrict it to users, groups, time and quota settings like in the web filter.

Streaming media will always be limit by all users/devices in the linked firewall rule. You have to create extra firewall rules for different app filter settings.
