Route to device with different subnet IP on primary LAN

I have an XG115 on subnet 10.5.5.0.
It is the gateway and DHCP Server with address of 10.5.5.1.

I have a device (Netgear Prosafe Switch - secondary switch) on the LAN that is functioning correctly and provides network connectivity,
but the Netgear Switch Discovery Tool reports its IP address as 192.168.0.239.

I want to access the management interface of the switch and change it to be on my primary LAN subnet.

Is there a way I can put in a rule or static route so I can access it from the LAN or VPN zones?

    Hi,

    from my experience with Netgear devices the discovery software will allow you to connect to the device and configure the new IP address.

    Hi Ian,

    i tried that...I get the following:

    But in addition, I am curious to know how to configure this type of routing, as there is always the possibility that you get some device that you want to add to the network that has an IP address not of the same subnet as your LAN. I have never been able to figure out how to route to such a device successfully.

    Hi Lonnie,

    you should be able to use the Netgear application not a web browser. It uses proprietary ports and MAC addressing. The XG is blocking that site as it should.

    You can add an alias to the LAN port and then create a firewall rule allowing traffic between the IP address ranges.

    Hi Ian,

    I am using the Netgear Discovery tool in attempting to access the switch:

    When you click on the Admin Page button the address opens in a browser window.


    An excerpt from the tools release notes:

    This is exactly the case. The switch's admin portal is on a different subnet from my LAN subnet.
    So is the case for the necessity to be able to route between different subnets on the same LAN.
    I have struggled with this type of scenario even with non-Sophos routers and never figured out a solution for this.
    i don't profess to be a networking genius (far from it...ha!), but I do have a good amount of experience in this area. This situation just eludes me.

    I will look into the alias scenario that you mentioned.

    Strange that, I have never had an issue using their tool to access newly installed switches. The alternative is to change the address of you PC and remove the switch temporarily from the network. Ian

    On the client you are using to access the switch set a static ip on its network connection, add a secondary 192.168.0.0/24 static ip to the same network connection, verify you can ping and access 192.168.0.239 once that's in place.
