how to clone iPhone

Hi community,

our iPhones are supported by Apple and managed with Sophos Mobile.
We have to replace several old iPhones with new ones but we are not able to clone the phones.
Only content like photos and contacts are copied but no installed apps.
Apple support says that the function must be enabled in MDM.
Does anyone know how and where this function can be enabled?

  • Hi Andreas,

Thanks for reaching out to the Sophos Community Forum.

Unfortunately, we don't currently have any documentation on how to do this. I suggest trying to set up and enroll the new device normally, then restore a backup of the old iPhone onto the new device.

If you were to do a full backup of the old iPhone, then restore it onto a clean new device, this may cause issues with the MDM profile that gets restored.

If you are willing to test this, please do let me know how this goes.

  • Hi Kushal,

    thank you for your reply!
exactly this is, what we have tested.
We can restore the backup on the new phone but the individual apps are not restored on the new phone. Only the standard-content like photos will be restored.
