Help with an unknown network issue.

Hello, I’m just going to cut to the chase. I’m trying to find anyone that can help me make sure that my home network isn’t compromised along with the few devices that I have attached to it. I recently found out that someone I trusted and shared my home with wasn’t a good decision and I’m still trying to pick up the pieces.

My problem is this; I am sure that my router (Asus OnHub) and my TV (Samsung UN6500 Smart TV) have been altered. My reason for this is that, recently I found a file with detailed info of how to gain root access of my Linksys Smart WiFi router that I had prior to the OnHub I have now. I have been having issues with my routers for some time now and am on about my 4th in probably 3 years because I keep getting locked out of them after I have changed the login and password. I also realized that recently I have found 11 open ports to my TV that is listed as localhost on my network. My OnHub router doesn’t allow me to change or secure much of anything and although my cable company doesn’t have IPV6 integration yet on my network, I’m showing it on my devices along with finding that my Amazon account listed 150 other devices that looked to be clones of my iPhone and Fire tablet. The person I spoke with at Amazon also said I had an AWS account attached to my prime account.

Another thing that I keep finding is Open Source information sheets listing numerous programs that I’ve never noticed until recently and that I know I personally haven’t downloaded.

I have sought help at our computer shop in town but I’m told this is beyond his expertise. I’m not sure what I have going on with my stuff but I never had any issues until I moved into the apartment I have now.

Thanks for listening,

James T.

  • I just wanted to clarify that my ex fiancé had been using my passwords to my accounts to keep tabs on me as she was having an affair and also to keep me distracted by my technical issues. I just don’t know what all was done to my stuff because factory resetting everything, changing passwords and even replacing all devices haven’t solved the problems.

My main issue that I have is that my devices keep being reset and require setting up and logging into almost every day or so which is frustrating and time consuming. Add in the loss of personal information and photos of my children and I’m fed up with not being able to figure out where I should start fixing the problem.

Last thing is that I can’t be for certain that this isn’t a backdoor Trojan that’s resetting things but, anytime she gets upset my stuff stops working and all my searches in reference to this seem to be coming up with nothing. There’s a lot of extra stuff than what I remembered in the browser bar besides the search I typed so don’t know if it is dns hijacking or what. I can give more details if needed.

  • Hi James,

    It's indeed a peculiar situation.

my devices keep being reset and require setting up and logging into almost every day

    What are these devices?

I found a file with detailed info of how to gain root access of my Linksys Smart WiFi router that I had prior to the OnHub

If that's the case, I would say a factory reset followed by a manual change of the root username should fix [clear any backdoor Trojan or malicious Cron jobs] anything wrong with the Router. I'd say try this first and monitor.
