Sandboxie 5.33.2: Firefox button "Email link..." does not open Thunderbird anymore

Hi all SB-user!

I have a serious problem: The Firefox button "Email link..." does not open Thunderbird anymore. Firefox is sandboxed, Thunderbird is not sandboxed. This feature works without any problems with Googles Chrome and Pale Moon.

I have: Windows 10 Pro 1903 (18362.449) 64-Bit, Sandboxie 5.33.2, Firefox 68.5.0esr (64-bit) and Thunderbird 68.5.0 (64-bit).

When Firefox is startet outside the sandbox, "Email link..." opens the Thunderbird "New message" windows without any problems.

This is the Mozilla section of my sandboxie.ini config:

  • After fiddling around some hours I got two workarounds:

    1. Do not use Sandboxie anymore with the latest Firefox / Chrome / Iron / Chromium versions. They all have their own sandbox mechanisms.

    2. Sandboxie solution: Change the action of the MIME-type "mailto" and let point it to the installed 64-Bit version of Thunderbird:

    • Open Firefox (outside of sandboxie).
    • Menu|Options|General: Scroll down to "Applications"
    • Select content type "mailto" and in the pull-down menu select the action "Use other...". Another window "Select Helper Application" opens.
    • Browse... and select "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe", the 64-Bit version of Thunderbird.
    • Close Firefox and re-open it (this time inside of sandboxie!)
    • Have fun with sending links.

If anybody has other or better solutions please drop your info here.

    Kind regards,
    Willy
