Firefox Browser Tabs and Menu Toolbar Invisible in Sandboxie?

1-  Sandboxie version 5.31.6 (x64) and Windows 10 Home
2 - Affected browser: Firefox
3 - Windows Defender
4 - Does it occur in a new sandbox with default settings?  Yes

Hello,

When using Firefox in Sandboxie, the text/font for the browser tabs and top menu toolbar (File/Edit/View/History/Bookmarks/Tools/Help) are invisible.

The current tab is visible and if I click on one of the menu toolbar options, that will turn visible as well.

When opening regular Firefox (not Sandboxed), the words are visible and the background appears black. Also when Chrome is Sandboxed, the fonts are visible as well.

I have tried changing the security from 2 to 1 to 0, but I am not sure what else I can do.

Another odd thing is that when I used the snipping tool to capture a screenshot of this problem, the screenshot shows all the fonts clearly. I had to resort to taking a picture with my phone in order to display the problem.

Here is what I mean:

Phone camera photo of the problem (Cars.com and Zillow.com as an example):

Using the snipping tool screenshot magically shows them for some reason:

  • I'm having exact same issue with sandboxie 5.30 (32bit) and Firefox 72.0.2 with latest windows 10 version 32bit pro version.

Not sure what happened.  I've been using it fine but now only the current tabs text is visible and the top bar title text and other tabs text is invisible unless I hover mouse over them or have a popup box opened like when entering in master password then it displays as normal until box is closed.

Any fix for this?  I only use my firefox browser with sandboxie but this is frustrating.

  • Upgraded to Sandboxie 5.33 (32bit) and still having same issue.  If main browser loses focus it appears as normal but tab and title text will disappear upon firefox browser gaining focus.

  • I think it has something to do with contrast and colors.  It all started when I was having trouble changing my background picture.  Wouldn't change when I clicked a picture when I was in the Right Click / Personalize / Background menu.  I fixed that with Global Policy Editor / Prevent Changing Desktop Background.  Changed Not Configured to disabled and then back to Not Configured.   I was messing with different Themes in that area also.   Ever since then I've had this issue with firefox and sandboxie.

Testing further, sandboxies firefox title background color is changing to white.  I noticed when I changed the color for title bar the text for title bar and browser tab text and the X / + to close and create new tabs are all white so it makes them seem to 'disappear' with a white background title bar.

A couple of workarounds for anyone that runs into this issue.

    -  If you Right Click desktop / click Personalize / then in the Colors tab on left side make sure Title Bars is checked under 'Show accent color on the following surfaces.'  This will change the title color on all applications though.

    - A better workaround I found is going into Firefox addons / themes and pick a different theme other than default.  Can also search for 'Theme' to find a lot of different ones.
