Inbound Mail marked as Internal

 Hello,

I am currently running PureMessage 4.0.3 on Windows Server 2012 R2. We have one trusted relasy. This relay is the spam filter ASSP (https://sourceforge.net/projects/assp/). All inbound mail passes through ASSP for its initial check. Then, it is passed to PureMessage and finally Exchange. Messages are coming through without any issue, but it looks like it is not categorizing them as Inbound VS Internal properly. For example, if I send an email from an external address to my company address is will be marked as "Internal". This makes it difficult to set different security policies in PureMessage since I am not sure how the messages will be categorized. As you can see in the image some messages are be set as "Inbound", but it is not consistent. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

  • Hi,

We are having the same issue only ours is the reverse of yours. Puremessage is treating internal email as inbound and applying restrictions such as macros etc. Our activity monitor shows that there are hardly any internal emails being sent/received and the bulk are either inbound or outbound. We have the upstream trusted relays set correctly and the correct domain information but the problem persists. Sophos are yet to provide a fix.
