SSL Client 2.1 VPN adapter install error

Hello,

I tried to install the VPN Client 2.1 from utm user portal. Like many times before. Now I get an error concerning the tab windows driver on three New ThinkPads.

I tried to install the driver from different openvpn builds. But nothing worked.

I cant find any entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318

The Installation continues and the traffic light appears but a connection is not working.

Any Ideas?

  • I managed to get it to work again. Maybe this is interesting for others. So this is my unconventional solution.

    1) Install SSL Client 2.1 from User Portal. Error appears but install continues. Traffic Light is shown up. No Entry in Network Adapters in Device Manager can be found.

    2) Install openvpn-install-2.4.6-I602. Only select TAP Adapter. Error appears but install continues. TAP Adaptor is shown in Device Manager, but with alert sign.

    3) Right click TAP Adaptor with alert sign. Get new drivers. Windows says best driver already installed. After this windows requests a reboot.

    4) After reboot the alert sign in Device Manager is removed. Then install again SSL Client 2.1 from User Portal. Finally installation runs with no errors. Entry in Device manager is changed from TAP Adaptor to Sophos SSL VPN Adapter.

Odd procedure but for me it worked on three notebooks.

  • How do you "only select TAP adapter"?  My installer doesn't seem to give any options to select components.

  • Hi Adam,

That's in the OpenVPN install, not the Sophos SSL VPN client install.  I would be tempted to first just try doing step 3 above.  Please share your result.

  • @Adam Currey Sorry for my late reply. BAlfson was right. I include a screenshot for clarification.

  • That would explain it - I've only ever seen the Sophos installer (downloaded directly from our UTM.)
