UTM with hosted email and internal Exchange

If they forward it you still need / can use it. They will forward it from there mx to your mx

If you have mail boxed from the provider and take the mails for example by using POPcon then u can use the POP3 Proxy from Sophos

Thank you Niklas! The hosted email provider will forward the email by using our public IP address.

According to my research I need to add our provider and their servers in "SMTP" => "Relaying" => "Upstream Hosts/Networks". Our UTM will then accept incoming mails only from those servers and will also do Antispam and Malware Scan.

Am I correct or maybe still missing something?

Normally, inbound emails go to the UTM where they are handled by the SMTP Proxy.  The Proxy then forwards the emails to the external server.  You might want to consult Basic Exchange setup with SMTP Proxy as it applies to other mail servers, too.  Your mail host needs to recognize your UTM as an Upstream Host.

If you want to have outbound emails also handled by the Proxy, your provider will need to designate your UTM's IP as a smart host.

You probably will need to have your email host disable some aspects of anti-spam.
