utm wont boot after 9.411 update

I have UTM9 installed on a little APU-1c and have had it running for around 2 years now. It's been super reliable and I regularly update it. This week, I had it run a 9.409 -> 9.411 update and now the device fails to boot at all. As the APU doesn't have a video output, getting at the output is a little tough (via serial) but I did manage to boot into linux via USB and can now take a look at the logs etc.

I'm seeing a few errors in kernel.log that don't seem right:

2017:02:15-23:14:05 gatekeeper modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/3.12.58-0.242991202.g6d80412-smp/modules.dep: No such file or directory

It repeats that a few times and then nothing further. I'm not an expert here, but I'd expect that to somewhat match with the grub config, which is now:

The lib/modules folder only has one folder in it currently:
 
3.12.58-0.247785862.g17c1041.rb7-smp
 
I'm not certain how this occurred nor how I might fix it. I'd appreciate any suggestions or assistance to get the device back up & running.

    Hi, and welcome to the UTM Community!  I see you've been reading here for awhile though.

    When problems occur suddenly after an Up2Date, you sometime can get lucky by restoring from a backup made prior to the UP2Date.  Put one configuration backup in the root directory of a USB memory stick and boot the device with the USB stick inserted.

    You probably already saw that this is not a problem others are reporting, so if that doesn't work, your best bet is probably to reload from ISO and restore a config backup.

    Thanks Bob, I'll give that a try. From the error though, I don't believe it's getting anywhere near actually booting. I was able to grab the config backup and have successfully restored this to a VM, so I was considering taking the opportunity to reinstall and switch to XG Firewall. It's only a home network and XG seems to be the direction things are heading?

    I would suspect you have a dead disk.

    Thanks both. I've installed XG from scratch, as installing UTM in the blind on the APU-1 is pretty painful. It was probably a dead drive.
