Howto install nic drivers?

Hello, I'm trying to install now a network interface driver on my appliance for two days  but i can't figure it out, how to do this.
The vendor readme say's I must runs a bash script. But the script needs make.
Sadly the make c compiler isn't installed.
When I try to install GNU make 3.82 i'm also not able to do this because it say's there is no suitable compiler [:D]

Has anyone experience with this situation?

I'm lost with this and don't have a clue what to do next.

    Hi ,

    You are not suppose to install new hardware after the system is already ruining.
    If it uses same drivers as the interfaces that already installed sometimes it will appear , if not you will have to do a clean install and restore a backup.
    Just be sure you have an unencrypted backup before you start.

    Thx for the quick answer.
    Well after a bare installation of ASG ther is a driver available, but this isn't the right one i need. The NIC supports 802.1Q and the build in driver somehow doesn't.
    I don't  install new hardware after the installation!

    So is there a way to applie a driver while installing the ASG? Did I missed something in the manual?

    Hi ,

    If the driver that installed with the installation is not exactly the driver you want , probably you will have a problem to install it , if you know the exact driver you want and it is available and supported by Sophos , send it here and I will ask to support for you if it is possible and how to do it .
    If there is a way I will post instructions for you and everyone else that need it here.

    The loaded build in driver is the r8169.ko
    The NIC chip is a Realtek RTL8111E for the onboard and the 4x port PCI Express card.

    Realtek

    Realtek uses the driver v8.035.00 for a cupple of chips:

    RTL8111B/RTL8168B/RTL8111/RTL8168
    RTL8111C/RTL8111CP/RTL8111D(L)
    RTL8168C/RTL8111DP/RTL8111E
    RTL8168E/RTL8111F/RTL8411 

    The supportet Linux kernels are:

    2.4.x
    2.6.x Realtek

    Hi ,

    Just to let you know , Realtek are known to be problematic with ASG. and Sophos UTM they are making lots of time issues with .
    Anyway I will ask for you tomorrow .

    Hi, how did you determine VLANs aren't supported in the built-in driver?

    Add / Edit
    There should be a Value "VLAN Tag", as it is described in the administration guide chapter 6.1.1.5.
    Sadly no one tolled me that your are unable to applie your own drivers ^^
