Replacing hardware or trying to switch to real cluster?

Hi,

currently using 2x SG 115 (hardware from 2015) in hot standby mode.

Reaching ressource limits with activated IPS, intensive mail traffic and several VPN and RED tunnels with moderate to high throughputs. Currently have to disable Web filtering.

(Avg. CPU load > 70%)

As we would have to buy new licenses in 1 month... Is it worth to try if CPU load goes down far enough to enable web filtering again if I double the license for enabling real cluster operation mode (A/A) or should I directly go to a more powerful hardware?

Thanks

Philipp

  • Hallo Philipp,

No, do not go A/A with 115s.  In general, you're better off with Hot-Standby and more-powerful hardware.

Depending on your specific needs & speeds, you should replace those with a pair of anything from SG 135s to SG 330s or switch to your own hardware and purchase software licensing.  A quality reseller will help you make the most cost-effective selection.
