Reimage a SG330 with UTM9 / connect it to a running master node

I want to reinstall an utm hardware applliance so i can rejoin it to an existing master. Here is what i am doing:

  1. Install the ISO
  2. Login and click through the basic install
  3. shut the unit down
  4. connect eth3 with master and power unit on
  5. it should auto connect as a new node and sync ???

Is that correct? I saw that there are some issues with the license when you just reset top factory default and then try to join a cluster. With the reinstall it gets an 30 days trial. Are there any steps i missed?

Thank you for the help

Bernd

  • If you do any installation, Bernd, the unit won't join High Availability.  It's unusual that one would need to re-image from ISO.  From your description, I wonder if all you need to do is:

    1. Disconnect the sync and backup NICs.
    2. Do a Factory Reset.
    3. Power the unit off.
    4. Connect all cables.
    5. Power the unit on.

If that doesn't work, substitute "Re-image from ISO" for 2.

    Any better luck with that?

  • What i did (which is certainly not the only method to do it) was:

    • Disconnect Node
    • Removed it from cluster
    • Re-Imaged it with same software version as master node
    • shut it down after installation (no initial configuration)
    • connected the cables again
    • start the second node
    • watch /var/log/high-availability.log until everything is done (takes some minutes)

    Thanks for the infos
