Is it better to split 2.4 and 5GHZ to different SSIDs?

Hi,

Is it better to have 5GHZ clients on their own SSID or use an SSID which works with both 2.4 and 5GHZ (using the default when creating a new wireless network)?

I started out with an older access point which had to have separate SSIDs for both 2.4 and 5GHZ, and since moving to the UTM I migrated to a single SSID for both 2.4 and 5GHZ. I think I already found a printer which has issues with this setup.

Hi Andrew,
I allways recommend to split up 2.4GHz and 5 GHz to ssids as we don't offer a band steering feature and so you are able to force 5GHz devices into the 5GHz Network and so clean up the air in the 2.4 GHz band where most of the clients are connected regulary.

a loooong awaiting feature is utm based client steering.

perhaps sophos will hear us (;-)
