AP100 and AP55 in a mixed environment.

So we manage a large residence that we just installed two AP100s and four AP55s into.   Two AP55s are upstairs.  One AP55 is on the main floor and one in the basement.  The two AP100s are also on the main floor at each end with the AP55 in the middle to cover the gap.   The problem we are having is that any clients and devices that are in between the AP100s will always connect to one of the AP100s even though signal strength for the AP100s will be -70 dbi or worse, yet the AP55 will be at -45 or better for those devices.   Is it a behavior of the AP100s to have "preferential treatment" over any AP55 if they are mixed?  If this is the case we may need to take out the AP100s and install only AP55s in the home.   Thanks!
