I have one OSX computer that keeps restarting the SophosDeviceControlD. It appears to be doing this every three minutes. It will stop, then three minutes later start back up, run for 30 seconds then stop again.
I have done a complete uninstall/reinstall of Sophos following the KB's and the issue still remains. I did also check follow this: https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/127413 but no prompt appeared, although I believe I did this awhile back. We do have more than one iMac on the LAN and the other is not having this issue. It is odd, about every 3 minutes it disconnects/stops then it restarts.
The computer in question is an iMac runnings OSX 10.13, any help with how to resolve this is appreciated.
On a side note: It is really annoying that this has also been going on for a couple weeks and I did not get an email alert on this.
Does this basically mean if Sophos service stop and restart every three minutes no alert is sent?
Look into this if anything: Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac: Secure Kernel Extension loading troubleshooting
If that's been enabled in that manner and the service still stops, it might be crashing due to some 3rd party KExt.
What other KExts are running on the Mac?
EDIT: As the service that is stopped is "resolved" each time, email alerts may not be sent. It could be some sort of timing too, though.
In reply to DianneY:
Email alerts not being sent for services being stopped is a little disappointing given a stopped service could be part on an attack.
I have tried the references steps with kext.
Is there a reference to Apple's bug for 10.13?
In reply to Badrobot:
The specifics are more with Apple; basically the issue there is that Kexts still will not load even if loaded manually, and updating to 10.14.1 resolves this issue.
Ok but the hardware is not capable of upgrading to 10.14 and 10.13 is not at EOL yet. So are you saying that there is no fix for this then?
