Sandboxie-Start of FirefoxPortable requires Admin-Password

Since having updated my Windows 10 to Version 1809 each Sandboxie-Start of FirefoxPortable  (or ChromePortable or SeamonkeyPortable) requires Admin-Password - is there some kind of workaround?

  • Hi stef,

Please, follow the guidelines so that we can better assist you:

  • 1 - Sandboxie 5.30, Windows 10 x64 bit 1809  (or Windows 10 x64 bit 1903 - I tested both)
    2 - Portebleapps-FirefoxPortable
3 - Avira Antivirus Free (actualized version)
    4 - Each time I start FirefoxPortable.exe (Portebleapps-FirefoxPortable)
5 - it occurs in a new sandbox with default settings
6 - UAC-message ("Möchten Sie zulassen, daß durch diese App Änderungen an Ihrem Gerät durchgeführt werden - Ja/Nein")

  • Hi stef,

Can I also get a copy of your Sandboxie configuration file?

    Configure--> Edit configuration
    Copy-paste the contents here

Added content: Since you are on Windows 10 1903, please try the latest beta, which addressed permission issues:
    Sbie beta version 5.31.2

    Thanks!

  • Hi stef,

Thanks, the configuration doesn't show me anything weird (which is good). I tested the scenario, and even if I allow it to run as administrator, this program doesn't start for me in the Sandbox.

This is what worked for me:
Install Firefox Portable directly in the Sandbox, ignore the autorecover prompts. When the installation completes, close it (don't select Run Firefox...). After that, navigate to the Sandboxed location where you installed it and launch it.

  • No, it didn't work for me:
I installed Firefox Portable (PortableApps, newest version)  in the Sandbox, ignored the autorecover prompts, closed the installation without selecting "Run Firefox", navigated to the Sandboxed location where I installed and launched FirefoxPortable.

Still I get the UAC-message ("Möchten Sie zulassen, daß durch diese App Änderungen an Ihrem Gerät durchgeführt werden - Ja/Nein").

Same behaviour when using Sbie beta version 5.31.2 - at least while on Windows 10 1809...

  • Hi stef,

Please try running the Firefox executable, not Firefox Portable app:
    for example:
    C:\Sandbox\<username>\<sandboxName>\drive\C\Users\<username>\Downloads\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox64

That will not trigger UAC inside or outside Sbie.

  • Stef, I hope you find this is a solution, for Firefox Portable with Sandboxie.  I also have Windows 1903 with the latest versions of Firefox Portable and
    Sandboxie.

I also have found if I try to run Firefox Portable in a sandbox from firefoxportable.exe in the root folder FirefoxPortable, it does not like Sandboxie, before opening the sandboxed browser, it will pop up the Windows message asking you to sign into your Admin account.

Under the App folder, there are folders for Firefox and for Firefox64 which have "firefox.exe" for 32 or 64 bit version. I have changed my shortcut to Firefox portable to FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox64\firefox.exe and things are going very well.

Steps to make a shortcut to the right application:

    1.  In Sandboxie Control, create a sandbox called FFPORT or something like that.

    2.  Choose Configuration - Windows Shell Integration - Add Shortcut icons

    3.  Choose the FFPORT sandbox

    4.  Ths Sandboxie Start Menu should appear.  Choose All files and folders

    5.  Choose the drive then go down to FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox64\firefox.exe. if you have a 64 bit setup.  If not use:  FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\firefox.exe  On my machine it does not show the application with the .exe extension.

    6.  The shortcut should appear on your desktop.

    Does this work for you?

    Best wishes, Doug
