Is POA only for using the Sophos Encryption Client or does it work with Bitlocker as well?

I thought POA was used for entering your credentials before the operating systems boots.  The information is then passed to windows as it boots up.

I thought this could only be done if you were using the Safeguard encryption client on each endpoint and not bitlocker.

If we are using bitlocker, would any of the policy item settings for POA apply to clients?

  • Hi Todd,

"POA" is a generic term that stands for "Power-On Authentication", and indeed refers to the entering of credentials at boot time, rather than in the Operating System.

As such we can speak of the "Sophos POA" (or sometimes "SafeGuard POA", but also of a "BitLocker POA". The "Sophos POA" is installed when you install the Sophos Encryption Client up to Windows 7.

You correctly state that all settings for the POA that can be configured through SafeGuard Enterprise have an effect on the "SafeGuard POA", and will not have any influence on the Bitlocker POA. Within SafeGuard Enterprise there are only a few settings that you can configure for BitLocker, all the others have to be configured through GPO or other Windows native means.

    Best regards,

    Vince
