[Sophos Notification]: SafeGuard Enterprise - MacOS Mojave is here and we support it!

Hi All,

The SafeGuard Client version 8.10.0.323 and previous versions of SafeGuard Native Device Encryption and File Encryption for Mac do not support macOS 10.14 Mojave and may not function correctly.

To be able to use this Operating System together with SafeGuard Enterprise, you need to install version 8.10.1.

Note: The Service Release SafeGuard Enterprise 8.10.1 supports macOS 10.11, 10.12, 10.13 and 10.14.

This KBA provides more detail.

  • A few questions about this update. It looks like a whole bunch of 8.1.1 installers were made available (server patch, macOS client, and Windows client). I was only expecting an update for macOS Mojave (10.14). Does that mean there are updates to all of these products? We just updated to 8.1 so I was curious if there was a difference for server installations and the Windows client from 8.1. Thank you

  • Hi Eric,

You are right, there are several new releases owing to the fact that this Month has already seen 2 new OS updates to Mac and Windows respectively. Here is some more information on the other download you would find for Windows OS owing to RS 5 update. Hope this helps!

  • Hello Again,

Comparing the 8.10.1 Windows client files, they appear to have the exact same hash, Date Modified, and size as 8.1 installers (SGNClient_x64.msi, SGxClientPreinstall.msi, SGNClient.msi).

Also - Comparing the server installations - 8.1 server upgrades (SGNManagementCenter.msi, SGNServer.msi) also appear to be the same files as 8.10.1.

    Do my findings make sense?

Are we only supposed to be using the patch from here if we need to patch file encryption? - https://community.sophos.com/products/safeguard-encryption/f/sophos-safeguard-products/105740/sophos-notification-safeguard-enterprise---windows-10-version-1809-redstone-5-october-2018-update---build-17763-is-here-and-we-support-it

Do we need to apply the Windows 8.10.1 patch on Windows clients as it seems they are the exact same files as 8.1? Same with the server patches provided?

    Thanks

  • Hi Eric,

Thank you for your response. As far as Windows endpoints are concerned, the version number is changed only on the overall zip file name, however the endpoint installer itself does not carry a new version number since its version number (8.1) supports Windows 10 RS 5. Since we do have an upgrade issue as mentioned in this KBA, we have also released a patch for the Filter Engine to address the same. Essentially the windows installer package remains the same and their versions too!

As File Encryption Engine update build 19 just contains new filter drivers and no other products components, this update does not change the the version or build number of the installed SafeGuard Client. In future versions of the product it is planned to add visibility in regards to the version of the file filter engine in the SafeGuard Management Center.

The Safeguard release notes also available for your kind reference.

Also, Yes, we would recommend using the latest installers for fresh installation of clients and upgrade of Mac clients, however the Management Server itself does not carry any specific upgrade to itself in this release and remains at 8.1 version and hence we would not suggest running the Installer for an existing SafeGuard Server running 8.1
