Whatsapp contact access block via Sophos Mobile

Hi guys,

The problem is, that some employes want to use whatsapp on their BYOD devices.

Is it enough to to block the whatsapp contact access via Sophos Mobile app-authorization to be conform with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?

We don´t want to break the law when the employes have company contacts in the contact list, but give our employes the possibility to use whatsapp on the phones without contact access.

Best Regards

  • Hi Dennis,

we're in the same situation as you are.

We blocked access to enterprise contact information by other apps to assure that we don't violate GPDR regulations.
This worked pretty good and we didn't had any issues.

BYOD cases are handled differently, here.
For BYOD we allow Sophos containers, only. The issue was, that we force our employees to keep their phone OS up to date.
Additionally there are a few apps we don't want to have on devices with enterprise data.

So if a BYOD device violates one of these policy restrictions, we block access to the container.

Maybe this would be a solution for you, too.

    Cheers,

    Matt
