Mail attachments (PDF) appear as (null)-file without an extension

Our customer reported a strange behaviour with the secure mail app today.

He got a PDF file that is correctly shown in Outlook, but in the secure mail app it is simply shown as an attachment called (null) without any extension. He was not able to open the attachment. I asked him to forward me the mail to my test account and I got a (null).pdf that I could open then without a problem. He saw the "conversion" of (null) to (null).pdf in the secure mail app before sending it out to me.

The left one is his "version", the right one is mine. I tested with various PDF files but none was shown without the file name and every file could be opened.

Is that a known issue and if not what could be the cause? File name length, special characters in the file name, winmail.dat, ...?
