Disabling iOS "Wi-Fi Assist"

Hi!

Is it possible to create a policy to globally disable the "Wi-Fi Assist" option on controlled iOS devices? The setting is found under "Settings" --> "Mobile Data" --> "Wi-Fi Assist". If enabled, the iOS device uses mobile data when the Wi-Fi signal is weak.

Regards

Jan

  • Hi Jan,

as far as I know Apple does not provide a possibility to disable this setting as an admin via the Mobile Device Management protocol.

    Best regards
    Stefan

  • Do you need to disable it? We have a fleet of 500+ devices and have not had a 'data' issue yet. 90% of our devices are under 1Gb usage a month.

    From Apple:

    • Wi-Fi Assist won't automatically switch to cellular if you're data roaming.
    • Wi-Fi Assist only works when you have apps running in the foreground and doesn't activate with background downloading of content.
    • Wi-Fi Assist doesn’t activate with some third-party apps that stream audio or video, or download attachments, like an email app, as they might use large amounts of data.
