Device name after SSP Enrolment

Is it possible to change the device name scheme used by SMC to name devices that have enrolled via the Self Service Portal? We would like to construct a name based on LDAP fields e.g.

ID (Lastname, Firstname)

This name is used only inside SMC to identify devices. At the moment only a personal ID from our LDAP is taken as the device name which makes it a bit cumbersome to identify users

Thanks,

Linnart

  • Hi Linnart,

    sorry for the late reply.

The SMC server automatically uses the value which is pulled from the active directory field which is currently configured to look up the user variable.
This field can be defined when going through the External Directory connection for the SMC customer.

Additional information about setting up the External Directory connection can be found in this article
If you use e.g. the "sAMAccountName" field, the device name could look like this: "firstnamelastname_1".

Alternatively, you could automatically use the device name which is defined locally on the device.

This can be activated by logging in as a super administrator and going to Setup | General

In there, activate the "Synchronize device name" option to enable the feature for the whole SMC server.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards
    Stefan
