If Sophos detects malicious file which is present in removable storage, the alert will give which file path.
For example D://example.exe
Hello kumar raj
AFAIK the path will be what the file path is at the time of detection, for example you have a thumb drive that was assigned to E:\, and Sophos detected a file there, the path will be something like E:\path\to\file.exe.
In reply to DianneY:
But not c:\\
In reply to kumar raj:
C:\ is usually assigned to a local drive; Sophos should look at whatever drive letter Windows assigns when the removable storage is detected.
What are you seeing, that this has come up?
some times i see file path as \\path\example\example.exe what this indicate.
That syntax is normally for a network (UNC) path. This will happen if Real-time scanning is enabled for Remote files.
So you mean the file is not present in the machine?
Yes - the file is probably in some network share, hence the UNC path. "Remote Files" under Real-time scanning is likely enabled that is why the remote file was scanned when it was accessed.
Thank a lot for your help
