Automatically scan files upon open? And USB sticks?

Hi there,

I'm trialling Sophos Intercept X on a small business network. I am using all the default policies.

Question 1:
If a user opens an attachment in Outlook 2013, say a powerpoint. Does Sophos automatically scan the file which is being opened?

Question 2:
Similarly, when I plug a USB stick into my PC I'm used to Kaspersky AV telling me that it is "busy scanning" the USB. With Sophos I don't see any such messages on my screen. Which is fine. But is it scanning the newly inserted USB stick nonetheless?

Thanks again,
Michelle

  • Hi Michelle,

Sophos will automatically scan any files read or written to the machine.  If the user opens an attachment in Outlook, it will be scanned before it is opened or blocked if deemed malicious.

Sophos does not perform an anti-virus scan on USB drives when plugged into machines but will scan any files as they are read from the USB drive such as if a user opens a file or attempts to copy a file to their machine.
