Enterprise Console - Upgrade and server to server migration

Hello,

I have a Windows 2008R2 standalone server with Enterprise console 5.3 and SQL Database installed on this server. 1200 Endpoints are managed by this server.

I would like to upgrade to the software version 5.5 of the Enterprise Console, migrate the database to a SQL Cluster 2016 and migrate the Enterprise Console to a new Windows 2012 server.

Do you think it is possible do do all-in-one operations ?

I mean :

- export the database to the SQL 2016 cluster

- upgrade the database

- install the Enterprise console on the new Windows 2012 server

Or do you think it's best to upgrade the actual server to the 5.5 software version and after that to migrate the database and after that to migrate the enterprise console ?

Below mentioned would be the best suggested steps:

1. Upgrade the enterprise console first, please refer to the upgrade guide.

2. Migrate the database to SQL cluster 2016

3. Migrate Enterprise console to the Windows 2012 Server, Please refer to Sophos Enterprise Console server to server migration guide.

[short answer to Julien: not recommended/supported, possible if you have some experience with migrations and errors during them, otherwise definitely not recommended]

You've left out the tricky parts, Haridoss [;)]. For step 2 you can proceed along the lines of Installing or Upgrading Enterprise Console databases ... and How to move a database ..., can't find an article right now that mentions that you have to uninstall the database component on the management server.
IIRC it'd be: Install the database component on the cluster, backup/restore the SOPHOS databases, uninstall the database component from 2008R2, rerun the SEC550 installer - it will prompt you for the database server. For step 3 you can't strictly follow the guide, skip the database component install, uncheck it when installing the management server and console.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I have a problem with the basic upgrade of my server.

For information, my actuel version is 5.2.1.197.

The Sec_550 installer discovers that the "Encryption is installed. Please migrate any computers and uninstall it before continuing."

There is no PC with that functionnality installed.

I tried the https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/123656 without success.

Do you know a way to pass through this step ?

The c:\sec_521_ directory is still present on the server.

Hello Julien,

then please follow the steps in the article under How to remove encryption. sec_531 is just an example, in your case open an administrative cmd, cd to C:\sec_521\ServerInstaller\ and run msiexec.

Hello,

All is fine now with the step 1.

For the step 2, the way to create the database on the SQL cluster server 2016 is to use the scripts available on the c:\sec_550\ServerInstaller\DB\Core ? Or is it possible to do something else ?

With the scripts, the files have to be modified with the right informations before executing ?

Hello Julien,

you have to specify the correct instance, the "current" database name is default for the scripts.
