Deadlock After Latest Sophos Update

Since the morning update on 8/4/20 that automatically came to SEC v5.5.2, we have been getting deadlocks on a bunch of our servers. We first noticed it with our Citrix environment froze the citrix instance when someone logged in. The only way we could stop it was to disable the on access scan.

I called support and after excluding the file path that was getting deadlocked in the test environment, we thought we had it working. But today it is still deadlocking for the exact same file that should be getting excluded.

We also have several other servers getting deadlocked for a different file which is causing problems with our core host processing forms. Is anyone else dealing with deadlocks after the Aug 4th update? What have you done to fix it?

    What to do

Create a registry override to disable asynchronous scanning for Sophos Anti Virus

    1. On the affected server, open registry editor and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Sophos\SavService\Application
    2. Create a new REG_DWORD called: DisableAsyncScans with a value of: 1
