Sophos Endpoint can't update

I may be using the wrong procedure here, but this has worked for me in the past.  We have laptops that go offsite and basically never return, and I'd like for those to get updates from Sophos, rather than our enterprise console, which is not open to the internet.  What I've previously done is to install the client, then change the line in iconn.fcg to allow local config (by changing the value from 0 to 1).  I then change the setting in the update manager on the laptop to use sophos, and I enter in the username and password.Recently I've noticed that this produces an iconlocal.cfg file, which either I haven't notice before or is relatively new.  I that file I've noticed that there's a connection address set to http://es-web-2.sophos.com/update

I'm not exactly sure where that's coming from, though I've seen it mentioned on these forums and elsewhere.  I guess it's hardcoded.  Anyway, this particular laptop can't download updates.  Within the log.  In the updating log in the GUI, I get the error "could not find a source for updated packages".  I've posted a section our of ALupdate(date).log below.  This is on a Windows 7 PC with Sophos endpoint 10.7.  I do see a line in the logs below indicating a failure to authenticate.  I'm not sure why that would be, as this seems to have worked on a different PC running Windows 10:

    the iconnlocal.cfg isn't exactly new, it's been here for quite some time. Even though the connection address looks genuine it's just a symbolic address for Sophos.

    Failed to authenticate
    suggests that there's an error in the credentials. Did you already try to reenter them?
