Download of (Sophos component) failed from server http://(url) [0x0000006b]

Hello

Several computers are reporting the error mentionned in the title on our Enterprise Console.

I have investigated a bit and I am pretty sure this is a false positive as mentionned in this kb .

I can easily reproduce it by updating Sophos while not connected to our company network (it will update via secondary server = Sophos).

Then connect to company network the client will report "Download of Sophos failed from http://...". It indeed failed but the error is not cleared until client updates again from company network. I have tried to modify the update interval from 10 to 60 minutes but then the error message just stays longer.

Is it normal that the error is reported even though the client was able to update from Sophos ?

Can it be cleared from the console ?

Is there a way to avoid clients reporting this ?

We use SEC 5.5, AV is 10.7.2, and update interval is 10 minutes.

Thanks in advance !

  • Hello Jordi Argaillot,

    Is it normal
yes it is, it's supposed to alert you of potential issues with your Primary update location.

    Can it be cleared
no, as you've said a successful update from Primary clears does so

I'd not suppress this error (not sure if it can be done at all) because you wouldn't notice issues with your Primary or endpoints that aren't able to contact it.
Downloads occasionally fail for various reasons (the endpoints' ALUpdate logs have the details which aren't always telling). In an outside/inside situation you'll always get at least the Download of RMS failed error as RMS can't be downloaded from Sophos.
