Sophos Endpoint protection no firewall service?

Does the Sohops endpoint protection client not include a firewall service? Is this a separate product?

Do I need to enable Windows Firewall? If so, are there any special settings I need to enable in Windows firewall?

Hello Ron Bishop,

you didn't say which product line. Firewall (SCF) is available with the on-premise managed SESC but not with Central or Home.

Sorry. It is Central.

We went with this option to reduce our hardware footprint in house.

So windows firewall needs to be enabled I take it.

I think I've heard rumors that there are plans to add the ability to manage the Windows firewall. Seems that other than the adaption to Windows 8+ development for SCF has been stopped.

Hi ,

Although marked as such, I don't think this question has been answered yet...

We've just switched from another AV solution which provided each user with a local firewall - but now we have deployed Sophos Endpoint with Central, do we need to enable the Windows Firewall for our users, or is Endpoint providing it?

Windows on the client PCs is just reporting the Network Firewall is off, whereas it used to show my old AV was running it - so are we covered?

Hello Marie-Claire,

as said, Central doesn't provide a firewall. You'd have to use the inbuilt Windows Firewall.

The part that's confusing me is the presence of 'Sophos Endpoint Firewall' when I review system health on a client PC - implies there is one...

you're right! Guess I should keep my mouth shut when it comes to Central.
Indeed the Release Notes show Sophos Endpoint Firewall 1.0.0 since Endpoint Central 11.5.5 with the text The new endpoint firewall component supports the management of Windows Firewall. According to the What's new this is available since July. My bad, sorry. The Central Help mentions firewall only in conjunction with a registered network firewall.
Anyway it's allegedly "just" a management interface to the Windows Firewall.

Perhaps you should post this question in the Central forum.
