ERROR: Could not find a source for updated packages.

I've recently updated our client machines from 10.3 to 10.7 in hopes that it would solve the "Could not contact server" error that many of our users are now seeing when trying to update; however, some of the clients (all on a SBS 2008 domain) update just fine, some intermittently, and some not at all. This just started happening 2 weeks ago on July 10. Here's an example of one that intermittently works:

Hi,

Can you link the alupdate log file from:
\programdata\sophos\autoupdate\logs\

The alc log file is really just a localised overview, the detail is in the trace log.

Yeah, here's the file from the computer that's intermittently failing to update: /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3/ALUpdate20170725T095017.0158090.log

Hello Mike,

there isn't much information in the log although the error is clearly visible:
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:12): server = sophos
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:12): Adding Sophos Update Location: dci.sophosupd.com/update
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:12): Adding Sophos Update Location: dci.sophosupd.net/update
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:12): No manually configured proxy.
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:12): SULDownloader setup successful.
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:12): SubscriptionProvider: StandaloneWindows/RECOMMENDED/10
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:13): Out of sources
Trace(2017-Jul-25 14:27:13): Failed: SDDS2 CheckResubscription failed
As you can see the Out of source is issued almost immediately. Doesn't seem to be an issue of AutoUpdate - perhaps it can't resolve the names?

I thought it could've been a firewall issue (we recently installed a new SonicWALL), but it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Just wondering if there's any recommended steps of action to provide more consistency in receiving updates. I did notice we were on 10.3 on many of the clients, so I've at least updated to 10.7. Baby steps! Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello Mike,

as said, the Out of sources is almost immediately, that's why I suspect either a negative DNS response or an ICMP message (not a timeout or a negative HTTP response). VPN can act as a firewall.
