Sophos standalone version Home Users Updating Failed

Hello Guys,

 I tried to create a standalone package for home users with the Sophos Deployment Packager.

After the installation on the client i see this error

I tied several things as put in the SOPHOS credentialsfor the updates.

I use http://dci.sophosupd.com/update for the primary update location

    Hello Roel (or is it Paul Hendriks),

    you can't set Sophos as Primary update location (you can do this when you install with the SA package downloaded from Sophos but you can't pre-configure the SA packages), only as Secondary. Furthermore, if an endpoint should update from Sophos you have to specify the location as Sophos, not an HTTP address, as a different mechanism (SDDS vs. CIDUpdate) is used to download updates from Sophos.

    Christian, that is what i tried to do. See the screenshots below.

    I fill in both update location

    I created a new package, i installed it to a standalone machine.

    When i check the update properties i don`t see the 2nd update location. All the fields are empty

    So this will nog work for home users.

    Hello Roel,

    rats! Immediately after posting it I noticed that I hadn't commented on RMS being ticked but then decided not to edit it as you might miss the edit ...

    RMS doesn't really make much sense as - as you say - the endpoints are stand-alone. With RMS ticked and download components selected you can enter a secondary location even though it's effectively ignored. Furthermore RMS can neither be installed nor updated from Sophos and having it selected would result in install/update errors.

    I can't say whether the install from Sophos will work - can't see why it should not but who knows.

    Last but not least: It's better to use an HTTP location with a hostname that definitely can't be resolved. When updating AutoUpdate first tries to download each product from Primary, after it's through the list of product s it tries the Secondary for all products that failed. In case of a UNC path it takes a while until the connection attempt times out. Multiply with the number of products. An unresolvable name quickly terminates the attempt and it takes much less time until the Secondary is tried. Doesn't really matter during automatic updates but in case Update now is used the delay might be irritating.
