Module: ALUpdate

I just installed sophos standalone on my home comptuer (win10 x64) and I put in the same credentials I used on my laptop a few months ago that is still updating and working but no luck.  Any suggestions?

  • Hello thomasrodriguez,

which product/component does it try to update (this is not on the screenshot)? Looks like the protocol level is not set to normal. Please check the ALUpdate log in %ProgramData%Sophos\AutoUpdate\Logs - this should tell from where it tries to update and why this fails.

  • Hi thomasrodriguez

Would you please check if your primary updating location is Sophos or not? if this is a standalone, you should see sophos otherwise it should be your company shared folder for updating either UNC or an http address

Make sure if it is Sophos you have the Sophos credential and if UNC or http , make sure you can browse to that location
  • I have the exact same problem, only Process ID is 2088 and Thread ID 4704

In my case my home PC works without a problem while the laptop can't update the antivirus.

  • Hello JorgeDiaz,

you saw the other two posts, didn't you? The alc.log (whether in raw format or interpreted) does not contain sufficient information for troubleshooting.

  • Hello,

This error can occur if the version of SAV you're currently running is too old for our servers.

Our current earliest supported version of SAV is 10.3.15. Can you confirm if you are running at least this version of Sophos Anti-Virus?

    You can check this by:
    1) Right-clicking on the Sophos Protection icon in the tray and selecting “Open Sophos Endpoint Security and Control”
    2) Clicking on “View product Information” under “Help and information” on the left
    3) Clicking on “Software” under Anti-virus and HIPS and checking on the Sophos Anti-Virus version

If you are running an earlier version of SAV, please download the newer version from the Sophos Website. Also, please make sure your credentials are entered correctly under the “Configure Updating” tab.
  • Thank you very much for your help. Indeed the version was older and installing the latest one it worked. I checked my other computer; and it looks that the laptop not seeing much use, remained in an older version. Thank you for the help.
