I've been trying to leverage Sophos for some basic DLP - I just want to catch CC #s in emails. I'm created a fairly basic rule in the default Data Control policy - content rule type, for Canadian CC.

I haven't got a single hit. I know people put CC #s in emails, because it's been detected by other means... I would love to get Sophos working for this though.

    I know people put CC #s in emails

    are they typing them in or attaching files with the numbers in them? Data Control can only intercept files opens ("attach") but doesn't scan outgoing mail (you'd have to do this at the gateway).
