SEA vs UTM Email Protection

Hello,

Is there a document with the differences between SEA and UTM Email Protection?

Which is better?

  • Hi Gonzalo,

I'm not sure there is a low level document that compares features 1:1.. However the SEA is a full featured industrial grade email appliance.. The UTM provides basic email/AV/AS protection.

some of the common features that set the SEA apart from the UTM could include:

    1. ability to create very robust email routing and filtering rules
    2. advanced configuration
    3. the SEA has very versatile routing abilities and can work within an email cluster
    4. delay queue and other more advanced email scanning
    5. time of click link protection (the appliance can scan standard urls in emails and will proxy connections to said site allowing the appliance to scan/block as needed)

I could probably make a list a few pages long, but the short of it is..

If you need basic email protection/routing.. a UTM will work just fine.

However if you need an industrial email product the SEA is the best choice.

for a better look into the SEA have a look at the documentation here: docs.sophos.com/.../index.html

the features and setup/configuration sections will give you a sense of its capabilities.

    Cheers

  • Thank you very much for your information. It's been very helpful to me.
