To add to this the Monthly newsletter from Sophos has come out today which indicates they are aiming to release it 26th April 2018, we will see if they stick to their word.....

The last correspondence from our TAM...

"In terms of 5.5.1 we were looking at mid-march. However, it was announced yesterday that this is likely to be delayed for further testing.

As soon as I have any more news or an official general release date. I’ll let you know."

We have a few outstanding support calls which will only be achievable with the new features in 5.5.1 so it's release cannot come quick enough....

12th March is nearly 1 month ago... any news on this?

According to our account manager @ Sophos they are aiming to release SEC 5.5.1 on March 12th, the update is focused around adding more functionality/management to exploit from SEC.

can't say as I'm not Sophos. Back then it looked like it's about to come (personally I'd expected Q3 2017 or so).
Just curious - what is it that you're waiting for? Process exclusions in the AV policy, better integration of EXP, or? SEC releases used to be aligned with SAV version changes and additional functionality, the upcoming 10.8.1 doesn't look like one that brings about an upgrade of SEC though. OTOH I've found the DataBackupRestore article already referring to 5.5.1.
