I've just become a member of the Sophos community for the sole purpose of trying to get this same issue resolved. Was wondering if you discovered any solution?

strange - TP locally disabled and a subsequent uninstall fails? Which OS - and from your first post I get it that you're not sure if they were/are working correctly?
Perhaps it's better to ask in the Central forum (there are subtle differences) and anyway contacting Support is also an option (AFAIK it's included with a Central license).

I have done that several times. Doesn't work. Still tells me to disable tamper protection when i try to go uninstall it even though I have entered in the tamper password from Central and turned off tamper protection locally.

please see How to disable Tamper Protection on how to disable it locally (revealing the password on Central, then entering it locally).
