unknown error 0x8000ffff while decomposing "documents" (and other locations)

hm, these are libraries which are not part of the file system but collections of (links to) folders. If you Scan my computer you shouldn't get this error.
doing a system scan
is system scan a scan you have set up? If you select or explicitly exclude a library as Item to scan you'll get these errors when running the scan (and the scan won't progress on the path). Surprisingly I didn't find any documentation on this behaviour. Note that when you select only the folders in the libraries the scan succeeds. Also note that on the Items to scan tree only the public Sample ... folders are listed - not your My ... folders. Nevertheless it's misleading as one might assume (if not expanding and looking at the tree) that Libraries would select the same folders as ion the Explorer view. 

Selecting file system items (like the right-click scan does - note that Scan with Sophos Anti-Virus is not available for a library) does not give the error. Thus if you have selected "all the rest" in your system scan you can ignore the 0x8000ffff as the scanner will then correctly traverse the file system and find the folders on their file system paths.
