TCP Reset in Firewall Logs

While trying to connect to one of our SQL servers over ports 8192 and 445 from the Sophos server, I am seeing an error. The error is "TCP Reset-O." Please help in any way that you can with this error as I am not too familiar with it. Thank you

  • Hi,

Are the connection attempts for testing purposes?  Do you have a problem?  Is the SQL server not managed in SEC and these are tests to understand why?

From the SEC server are you running something like:

    telnet sqlserver 8192

If the SQL Server is managed with RMS and the port is open, you should get back the IOR of the router.  This port does not need to be open on a client to be managed.  The client needs to be able to connect to port 8192 and 8194 of its parent router.  The management server only needs to be able to connect to port 8194 of the client to speed up downstream message delivery

    telnet sqlserver 445

Is there a separate reason for this test?

Where is the firewall where you see this logged?  On the SQL Server or on a device between the management server and the SQL server?

    Regards,

    Jak
