Services fail to start.

In two machines, the installation of sophos antivirus is successful, but many services fail to start (see images).

The log does not track any anomaly. What might be causing these issues and what can be done to overcome them ?

  • My experience with installing this is, it is mostly other AV's causing this. I found a reg file that disabled Windows Defender. I then go to AV website, and run their removal tool. (I wish SOPHOS would have one of those :( ) and then tun the .NET framework repair. That fixes the MSI installer, and any .net drama. Reboot I find this fixes a lot of issues. I now have situations where it installs, but, I can't see the agent >< Trying to work out that one...

Also, disable Tamper, and use something like Revo uninstaller, and clean it out, not sure if that'll help.

  • Like it was said, to overcome this problem you really have to eliminate from the equation the Microsoft solution. In Windows 10 Professional, when the sophos installation process can't disable by itself the Security Essentials, you can force it by a local policy group configuration and then the possibilities of success in installing the solution from Sophos are more. When you have a Windows 10 home edition things become more difficult. I had to create and edit registry keys.

  • Did you get it working? Do you find that Windows 10 causes a high level of failures, without killing defender? I'm really pushing this Cloud thing, but, it's killing me.
