Microsoft DPM and on access scanning

Good Morning,

We are currently uploading DPM content to Azure cloud services but once the target partition is mounted for upload sophos seems to bring it to a grinding halt, the folder location that these get mounted to is in the exclusion list but we had to disable on-access for it to run.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • Hello BUKtrj,

I don't have DPM so just a general question. On-Access, as its name implies, kicks in when a file is accessed. Possible that upon the mount many if not all files are accessed and thus SAVService gets very busy. This should nevertheless abate after some time - which might nevertheless be too long to be acceptable.
I can see two reasons why the exclusion seemingly doesn't work. Either it is not correct (could you post it exactly as it is specified perhaps?) or the filter driver sees a different path (for the latter Process Monitor might give some insight, it's also possible to enable debug logging for SAVService).

  • Thank you for the reply, the volumes get mounted in unique folders in the following location:-

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\DPM\

This is what i have set for exclusion, i shall test the others to see if it highlights anything.
