If you are using Sophos Endpoint version 10.2.x and you subscribe to either the 'Recommended', 'Previous', Extended or 'Oldest' packages you will receive an automatic update to Sophos Anti-Virus version 10.3 starting in October 2013.
The major difference between Endpoint 10.2 and 10.3 is the addition of support for the Sophos Client Firewall on Windows 8.
Applies to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s) Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 10.2
During October 2013 we will begin upgrading Sophos Endpoint version 10.2.x to version 10.3.x (download size = 118MB). The upgrade will happen automatically and will keep all of your existing settings. We will migrate customers using the 'Recommended' tag in October with 'Previous' , ‘Extended’ and 'Oldest' following later (for more information on Sophos Update Manager subscriptions see article 110302).
In addition to the update we are also changing the labelling of the latest subscriptions in Sophos Enterprise Console (SEC) in order to align them up with the new lifecycle policy. With this update we will remove the version label from 10.2/10.3 so that it is seen just as “Recommended”, next month 10.2 Previous will be labelled as “Previous Recommended”.
We are also introducing a new “Extended” subscription and next month will introduce “Previous Extended” subscriptions that align with the new lifecycle: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/119216.aspx. When we retire 10.2 Oldest you will simply need to select one of these new versions as appropriate.
The labelling of other versions such as 9.7 Recommended and 10.0 Recommended is not affected by this change.
You do not need to take any action. The update will be automatic and will take place in the same way as the regular updates using the same updating mechanism. If you have a non-Business license there are options available on how to avoid the automatic upgrade – see below.
The action you take will depend upon whether you have an Enterprise license or a Small Business license. For more information on license names and to determine what type of license you have, refer to article 111179.
If you are still using fixed packages and have also unsubscribed from automatic upgrades in Sophos Enterprise Console, you will need to ensure that you are running one of the following packages before manually upgrading to a V10.3 package, to ensure that Endpoints upgrade properly:
This is due to an issue some customers have seen with upgrades recently, failure to do this might result in the Endpoint needing manual intervention to correct the upgrade.
For information on checking your license type see article 117247.
