This article is only intended for Mac administrators who need to remove the program from a lot of Macs.  If you need to remove the program from one or two computers see article 120838 for steps using the graphical (and much easier) removal program.

Applies to the following Sophos products and versions
SAV for Mac OS X 9.2 and above

What To Do

All the instructions below are entered in Terminal.  To open Terminal search for it in Spotlight.

Example:

Select the instructions based on the version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X you have installed (article 112457 explains how to check the version):

  • Version 9.2+
  • Home Edition (free version)

Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X version 9.2+

Note: If installing via Apple Remote Desktop with UNIX commands, the command needs to be altered slightly sudo "./Sophos\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/tools/InstallationDeployer" --install

Installation via the Terminal - v9.2+ installation managed by Enterprise Console

On the Mac endpoint computer:

  1. For Enterprise Console: Copy the 'Sophos Installer.app' installer file and the 'Sophos Installer Components' directory to a preferred location (e.g., the Desktop).
  2. Open Terminal and change the directory to the one containing the installer.  Example:
    cd /Users/<yourUsername>/Desktop/
  3. Run the following command:
    sudo "./Sophos Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/tools/InstallationDeployer" --install

Note: You will be prompted for a password. This is normally the password of your account used to log on to the computer if your user account has administrative rights.  The password will not appear on screen - press enter when you have entered it.

Installatin via the Terminal - v9.2+ installation managed by Sophos Central/Cloud

Please see KB120570 for instructions.

Installation via the Terminal - v9.2+ standalone installation
