This article provides information on the extended Anti-Virus support for Windows 7/2008 R2. This package must be purchased from your Sophos sales representative or Sophos Partner.
Sophos always encourages customers to use the latest operating systems and service packs, however, we also recognize that some customers are unable to upgrade for various reasons and because of this Sophos is offering to extend the availability of support for both Windows 7 and 2008 R2 from their current retirement dates until no later than 31 March 2023.
Sophos Enterprise Console managed customers must separate the Windows 7 and 2008 R2 computers and re-protect them with a new package.
After this Sophos will continue to provide security updates and periodic engine refreshes to maintain protection but reserves the right to review the status of support should an issue be found within Windows 7 or 2008 R2 that means that we can’t provide suitable protection, see the EULA for more details.
Both Windows 7 and 2008 R2 will remain available in the existing package for a period and will continue to receive security updates, however, they will not be supported unless the customer has purchased extended support.
Extended Support does not cover any of the Sophos Enterprise Console components installed to Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2. These are:
If you currently have any of these components installed to these operating systems we recommend transferring these to a supported operating system. Where relevant you can use the Server to Server migration guide to migrate to to a supported operating system. Extended Anti-Virus support for Windows 7/2008 R2 does not include the following components:
If you have either of these components installed on your Windows 7/2008 R2 computers you will need to manually access the computer and uninstall the component before moving the machine to the new group. To determine if they are installed right click the computer and select View Computer Details. The two settings to check are:
If they are not installed, these fields will be blank.
Note: If you do move the machines to the new group with these two components installed, they will remain on the computer but fail to update. If this occurs you will see the following update failures against the computer in Enterprise Console:
