This article provides confirmation of a known issue with Sophos Anti Virus for Linux running on Red Hat 8 or CentOS 8 and the creation of "rpm" install packages.
Applies to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s) Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux 9.16.0
Operating systems Red Hat 8 (RHEL 8) , CentOS 8
With the extensive security changes that were introduced with the release of RHEL 8, some aspects of the implementation of SAV for Linux have been affected.
Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux managed by Enterprise Console has the feature to create mini-distribution packages for export and install on other similar platforms in the environment. These mini installation packages can be of a tar/zip format or a rpm package.
With the current release of SAV for Linux, the ability to make a mini installation package of the "rpm" format no longer works. The ability to make a tar/zip install package is not affected.

# ./mkinstpkg -r
Warning: Suitable version of the RPM command not installed.
Package creation aborted
The possible workarounds are to use the default setting to create tar/zip package or create the rpm package on a RHEL 7 installation where SAV for Linux is installed.
This issue affects SAV for Linux v 9.16.0 and is due to be resolved in the next release.
