Sophos works diligently, around the clock, to keep its IP addresses off of blacklists, and requests quick removal of the addresses from any blacklist where they have been inappropriately listed.
UCEProtect is a small DNS blacklisting service provider targeted at niche users in European countries. Upon further investigation, Sophos has learned that this issue was caused by UCEProtect blacklisting Amazon's entire IP netblock (31 million IP addresses) on one of their blacklist policies ("Level 3") which includes certain Sophos IP addresses.
Sophos has since reached out to UCEProtect and submitted a request that Sophos IP addresses be removed from the blacklist.
UCEProtect's policy claims to automatically de-list IP addresses after 7 days once they consider the IP address SPAM free. To expedite this process, they offer the option to pay per IP address for removal. It is Sophos policy not to pay fees for de-listing, as we do not believe this is in the best interests of our customers in the long term.
Sophos has taken additional measures in our mail delivery systems to minimize the impact of the issue going forward.
