This article covers an issue where Sophos updates are not applied when a computer is shut down rather than restarted.
Following an update to Sophos software on a Windows computer we may request a restart of the computer to apply the changes. If the computer is shut down rather than restarted the software does not get updated.
This is because recent operating systems from Windows 8 upwards treat a shut down operation differently to a restart where it is like the hibernation process in previous versions of Windows. Whereas a Restart does not read the state of Windows. That is why a restart takes longer than turning off and back on your PC.
When requested to perform a restart as part of the Sophos update process choose the 'Restart' operation and not 'Shut down'.
