Sophos is announcing end of support of Avira virus scan engine v3.x used in Sophos XG Firewall, Sophos UTM and Cyberoam on December 31st 2019.
This article lists the affected and safe XG, UTM and Cyberoam versions and provide recommendations to continue to be fully secure.
Applies to the following Sophos products and versions Sophos XG Firewall v17.1 and earlier, Sophos UTM v9.5 and earlier, Cyberoam v 10.6.1 and earlier
Avira have updated their virus scan engine and will no longer support older versions after December 31st 2019. Older versions of Sophos products that use the old, v3.x engine will no longer receive Avira detection updates after this date.
Customers who are using Avira either as the only scan engine, or in a dual scan-engine configuration and who do not upgrade, will find their protection is reduced and may experience other problems with traffic that is supposed to be scanned.
Sophos has incorporated the new v4.x engine in the latest firmware versions of XG Firewall, Sophos UTM and Cyberoam.
Customers who are still using impacted versions should update to the most recent version before 31 December 2019.
Customers using older versions of XG Firewall or SG UTM who do not wish to update should switch their device to use single-engine scanning using Sophos as the primary scan engine before 31 December 2019.
